Sigurd, UT

Sigurd is a Sevier County town near the junction of Interstate 70, U.S. 89, and Utah State Route 24 in central Utah. The town was settled in 1874 and incorporated in 1935. Its setting is a mix of valley farmland, Wasatch foothills, and the highway routes that run through the Sevier Valley. The 2020 census counted 405 residents. Sigurd’s scale is small, but its roads connect the town to Richfield, Salina, and the longer Capitol Reef route east.

Gypsum gives Sigurd an unusual industrial profile. United States Gypsum operates a mine and production plant in town, tying local work to the mineral deposits in the foothills. Utah’s air-quality permit records identify the plant as a gypsum-products facility, while older geological work traces the deposit and plant history back decades. Town council meetings, the town park, and a local car show give the community a civic calendar alongside the industrial one. Sigurd is a central Utah town where a highway junction, gypsum works, and small-town government share the same valley.
