Silver Grove, KY

Silver Grove sits on the south bank of the Ohio River in northeastern Campbell County, with Kentucky Route 8 following the river toward Dayton and Augusta. The city began in 1911 as a Chesapeake and Ohio Railway town, so its original logic is easy to see in the long river edge, the tracks, and the compact downtown. A 1914 description called the new community modern because it already had electric lights, a water and sewer system, a fire department, a school, and a park. That list gives Silver Grove a surprisingly complete civic outline for a place still finding its footing.

Rail remains part of the city’s memory, but the river is the bigger piece of the setting. It supplies the broad view, the route’s gentle curves, and the sense that Silver Grove belongs to the chain of Ohio-side communities east of Cincinnati. Local students were once served by a dedicated K–12 district; in 2019, that system joined Campbell County Schools. The 2020 census counted 1,154 residents. Silver Grove’s story is compact and legible: a railroad town planted beside the water, furnished with civic basics early, and carried forward through a shared county school system.
