Sisquoc, CA

Sisquoc is a small Santa Barbara County community in the Santa Maria Valley, south of Garey and within the 805 area. The 2020 census counted 191 people. Vineyards and strawberry fields are part of the surrounding agricultural picture, while the Sisquoc River and the valley floor give the place its geographic name and setting. Its climate is mild through much of the year, and the community sits within the wider Santa Maria region without losing its rural edges.

Day-to-day life gathers around a short list of institutions: a fire station, church, store, and a Preschool–8 school. Those places serve as the practical center for families spread among fields, roads, and small clusters of homes. Sisquoc’s scale is easy to miss if you only look at the valley’s larger towns, but the local pattern is clear once you follow the roads south of Santa Maria: agriculture, water, school, and emergency services all fit into the same small community. The vineyards and strawberries are part of the working landscape, not a separate backdrop.
