Sligo, PA

Sligo is a Clarion County borough built along Licking Creek, a tributary of the Clarion River. The 2020 census counted 686 residents. Route 68 gives the town its regional line, running about 11 miles northeast to Clarion and 13 miles southwest to East Brady on the Allegheny River. The creek valley also holds the older working story: Sligo Furnace operated on Licking Creek, producing rolling-mill iron before closing in 1871. Coal once lay beneath the hills too, so Sligo's early working map tied water, minerals, and routes together.

Today the borough's daily map is civic, with the old industrial story underneath. The Sligo Recreation Center hosts borough meetings, and the local network includes the Union COG Pool, Sligo Elementary School, and Sligo Volunteer Fire Department. Route 68 remains a live piece of the practical map: PennDOT anticipated replacing the bridge over Little Licking Creek in summer 2026.
