About Sloan

Sloan is a Woodbury County city on the Missouri River floodplain, with its whole story tied to the railroad. The Sioux City & Pacific Railway laid out the town in 1870, and the place took its name from railroad official Samuel Sloan. Interstate 29 runs nearby, while the nearby WinnaVegas Casino gives the area another recognizable stop on the map. Sloan’s city hall remains on Evans Street, the same street the town’s local history keeps returning to. Sloan is northwest Iowa in a narrow frame: river bottom, railroad town, interstate access, and a name borrowed from the man who helped put it on the line.
