South Sioux City is a city in Dakota County, Nebraska, situated immediately across the Missouri River from Sioux City, Iowa, as part of the Sioux City metropolitan area. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark passed through the area in 1804, and European settlement on the Nebraska side began in 1854. The community of approximately 13,900 hosted horse racing at Atokad Downs for fifty-eight years and is served by the South Sioux City Community Schools.
