Snoqualmie Pass, WA

Snoqualmie Pass is a Kittitas County CDP of 372 residents in the 2020 census, on the east side of the Cascade crest where I-90 crosses the mountains. It includes Hyak and extends southeast toward Keechelus Lake, with SR 906 serving as the local road between the pass community and I-90. The pass is also named for the Snoqualmie Tribe, tying the highway landscape to the people whose name remains on the route. This is a transportation community with a recreation calendar.

The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the pass, Iron Horse State Park runs through Hyak and the old rail tunnel, and the Summit at Snoqualmie supplies downhill and Nordic skiing. Keechelus Lake adds paddling and shoreline trails in warmer months. The pass community's chalets and condominiums are often seasonally occupied, so winter traffic and summer trail use bring different rhythms to the same roads. Snow, freight, trail traffic, and I-90 maintenance all show up in the same small mountain community.
