Snyder, NE

Snyder is a quiet, close-knit village in Dodge County, set along the gentle curves of South Pebble Creek. Founded in the 1880s around a local grist mill and railroad line, the town grew steadily into the surrounding farmland. After a major flood in 1944, residents rebuilt much of the village higher up the hill, giving Snyder the spread-out, relaxed residential layout it has today. The old depot days have passed, but State Highway 91 keeps the community well connected, giving locals a straightforward drive to Fremont, Columbus, and surrounding towns.

Despite its small population, Snyder has a remarkably strong local economy. The village is well known as the home of Smeal Fire Apparatus, which grew from a modest repair shop into a major manufacturer of fire trucks shipped across the country. Snyder also holds onto a proud meat-crafting heritage, with local shops known for homemade summer sausage and quality cuts. Community life centers on familiar staples like St. Peter's Lutheran and St. Leo's Catholic churches, along with annual celebrations that bring generations together.
