Somerset, OH

Founded in 1807 along historic Zane’s Trace, Somerset sits between Lancaster and Zanesville in the rolling hills of Perry County. The village started out as the county seat, and its 1819 courthouse still anchors the square as the working village hall. Even after county government moved to New Lexington in the 1850s, Somerset kept its classic layout and historic character, creating a relaxed setting that has changed very little over the generations.

Walking through town, you will notice dozens of handsome brick buildings and storefronts from the early 1800s. The village square features a unique roundabout with a monument to Union General Philip Sheridan, who spent his childhood here, while Ohio’s oldest Catholic church, Saint Joseph, sits just down the road.
