South Amherst, OH

South Amherst is a quiet, tight-knit village in Lorain County, tucked right between Amherst and Oberlin about 30 miles west of Cleveland. Home to around 1,600 residents, it offers a peaceful, semi-rural pace where neighbors know one another and traffic is practically nonexistent. The village is historically famous for the massive Buckeye Quarry, which once supplied sandstone across the country. That quarrying past still gives the area a unique personality and a strong sense of local history.

Day-to-day living is laid-back, with South Amherst Community Park providing open green space, a walking path, and a playground for families. Students attend the Firelands Local School District alongside kids from neighboring townships. For dining and shopping, you can easily pop over to Oberlin for independent cafes and cultural events, or head north into Amherst for major grocery stores and highway access.
