South Connellsville, PA

South Connellsville sits on the south side of Connellsville, where local streams join the Youghiogheny River on their way toward the Monongahela. The borough's land was divided among early tracts with names such as Rome, Constantinople, Newry, Connell's Last, and Confidence, a reminder that this was a patchwork of grants before it became a municipality. Connellsville's founding is tied to Zachariah Connell's settlement around 1770, and South Connellsville was incorporated in 1911. A local tradition places a Longabaugh cabin near today's Soisson Park, but the story remains a legend rather than settled history.
