About South Fulton

South Fulton is an Obion County city pressed right up against Kentucky, and its story makes the state line feel more like a seam than a wall. The community was first called Jacksonville, tied to land once owned by Andrew Jackson. Rail service helped it grow, and when the town incorporated in 1895 it took the South Fulton name to distinguish itself from Fulton, Kentucky, just across the line. The two places are still treated as twin cities, with the old International Banana Festival recalling the days when railroad cars carried bananas north from New Orleans. Obion County Schools handle the public-school side of life. South Fulton is a border town whose identity comes from rail, shared traditions, and the daily overlap of two states.
