South Holland sits about twenty miles south of downtown Chicago, offering a quiet, family-oriented suburban feel with deep roots. Dutch farmers originally settled along the Little Calumet River in the mid-1800s, and over time, the open farmland transformed into established residential neighborhoods. For decades, the village has embraced the nickname "Community of Churches," and that heritage lives on in its official motto, "Faith, Family, Future." Today, it remains a peaceful, close-knit community where churches, schools, and neighborhood associations work closely together.

Commuting and errands are easy thanks to the intersection of Interstate 94 and Interstate 80/294 right on the edge of town, giving drivers direct routes into the city, out to the western suburbs, or into Northwest Indiana. Everyday retail, grocery stores, and casual dining line 162nd Street (Route 6), the village's main commercial corridor. In addition to local industrial and healthcare employers that supply steady jobs, South Holland is home to South Suburban College, which brings continuing education classes, cultural programs, and regional Pace bus connections right into town.

Veterans Memorial Park serves as the go-to spot for outdoor concerts, fun runs, and Juneteenth celebrations, while classic car enthusiasts gather for seasonal cruise nights on South Park Avenue. Longstanding traditions like the municipal band and the annual Garden Walk, paired with new Town Center additions like the SoHo Shops and Family Athletic Center, give newcomers lots of ways to get involved.
