South Jacksonville, IL

South Jacksonville is a Morgan County village just south of Jacksonville, the county seat. The 2020 census counted 3,302 residents. Illinois Route 267 runs through the village center, with Jacksonville about two miles north and Woodson six miles south. Mauvaise Terre Creek passes along the east side through Mauvaise Terre Lake, then continues toward the Illinois River. Prairie Land Heritage Museum gives the village an agricultural side, with antique machinery, traditional farm buildings, and a two-foot narrow-gauge railroad powered by a real steam locomotive.
