South Lima is a quiet rural hamlet in Livingston County, tucked right where the borders of Lima, Livonia, and Avon meet. Early settlers originally called the area Goose Island after the wild flocks drawn to local wetlands, but it soon grew into a welcoming stop along the 19th-century stagecoach route between Canandaigua and Batavia. When the Erie Railroad arrived in 1852, the settlement briefly went by Hamilton Station before adopting its permanent name.
