South River, NM

South River is a CDP in San Juan County's Aztec Division, in the high-desert country of northwestern New Mexico. It sits within the Farmington metro orbit, east of Farmington and near Aztec, with broad mesas, arroyos, open acreage, and irrigated pockets defining the landscape. The community's name points toward the area's water geography, even though daily life is shaped just as much by roads, school routes, and the towns along the San Juan basin.

South River is served by Aztec Municipal Schools and uses Aztec and Farmington for many civic, commercial, and medical needs. Homes, small farms, horse properties, and larger tracts sit alongside the county's high-desert pattern, while nearby places such as Spencerville, Flora Vista, Bloomfield, and Aztec sit within the same San Juan County region. The surrounding towns also share the high-desert setting. South River has no municipal government of its own; its character comes from being a named CDP within the Aztec area, with space, sky, and working connections carrying most of the story.
