Tucked into the rolling hills of southeastern Lafayette County, South Wayne is a quiet village with deep roots in southern Wisconsin farm country. Originally founded in the 1880s as a railroad stop, the community has held onto its relaxed, small-town feel over the years. Today, that historic rail corridor is best known as part of the Cheese Country Trail, which runs straight through town. The 47-mile route connects the village to nearby hubs like Monroe and Mineral Point, making it easy to hop on for ATV rides, biking, or walks in the warmer months, as well as snowmobiling when winter hits. Having that trail system right outside gives locals a convenient way to get outdoors and explore the scenic countryside year-round.
