South Windham, CT

South Windham is a village and census-designated place within the town of Windham, adjacent to Willimantic. Its name comes from the small manufacturing settlement that developed off Norwich Road along Machine Shop and Babcock Hill Roads. Route 32 carries a mix of residential, commercial, and manufacturing uses through the village, while the surrounding section includes farmland and lower-density homes. Near Willimantic, the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association adds a seasonal residential district. South Windham is one of Windham’s working village sections, with its older industrial pattern still legible along the roads that lead toward the town’s larger urban center.
