Spencer is a quiet town of about 3,300 residents in Rowan County, located right between Salisbury and the Yadkin River off Interstate 85. Built around Southern Railway's steam locomotive repair shops at the turn of the twentieth century, the town has held onto its deep railroad roots. Today, the massive North Carolina Transportation Museum serves as a local anchor, drawing visitors with its historic roundhouse and train rides, while the surrounding neighborhood streets are filled with classic, well-preserved homes.
