Spencerville, NM

At the 2020 census, Spencerville was a San Juan County census-designated place of 1,138 people in northwestern New Mexico's San Juan Basin. The place sits in the Farmington-Aztec orbit, where the Animas, San Juan, and La Plata river valleys meet the broader Four Corners landscape. That regional setting carries a much older timeline: San Juan County's history includes Diné, Pueblo, Southern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute, and Apache peoples, along with Ancestral Puebloan sites preserved across the basin. The county itself was formed in 1887, when the territorial map split San Juan from Rio Arriba County.
