Sportsmen Acres, OK

Sportsmen Acres is a small town in central Mayes County, seven miles southeast of Pryor on State Highway 69A. MidAmerica Industrial Park sits about a mile west, so the town's map has a sharp contrast: a residential pocket on one side of the highway and one of Oklahoma's largest industrial sites nearby. Sportsmen Acres incorporated in July 1972 after only three families had completed their homes, making it Mayes County's youngest town at the time. The 2020 census counted 316 residents, down from 322 in 2010.

That history still gives the place its particular rhythm. The town was planned as a home base, while the industrial park supplies the larger regional work map with manufacturing, logistics, rail, and other employers. State Highway 69A is the practical connector to Pryor and the surrounding county. The local government is small-scale, and the town's story is easier to understand through its edges than through a traditional downtown: homes, school-district lines, the highway, and the industrial park one mile west. Sportsmen Acres is a compact Mayes County place that grew beside industry without becoming an industrial town itself.
