Spring City, UT

Spring City lies at 5,823 feet in Sanpete Valley below the Wasatch Plateau. Its center is the Spring City Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a well-preserved Latter-day Saint pioneer settlement with nineteenth-century oolitic limestone buildings, agricultural outbuildings, and a distinctive street plan. The Utah Historical Society notes that Spring City was the first historic district in Utah to encompass an entire town. The 1859 plat and one-home-per-block pattern remain legible in the town's layout.

Farming still fills the edges of Spring City, while artists have gathered here since the 1970s. Spring City Arts operates a gallery in a restored early-twentieth-century automobile showroom on Main Street, and Joseph Bennion established Horseshoe Mountain Pottery there in 1980. North Sanpete School District serves the city, including its elementary school. The result is a Sanpete Valley village with working agricultural land around a preserved town center, where historic homes, galleries, pottery, and school routes share the same Main Street geography.
