Spring is a census-designated place in Harris County within Greater Houston and Houston’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. Its population was 62,559 in 2020. The name is also used for a much larger north Harris County area, so places with Spring addresses do not necessarily lie inside the CDP. William Pierpont established a trading post on Spring Creek in 1838, and Old Town Spring had become a tourist area by 1989. Harris County Precinct 4 operates parks in the CDP, while Six Flags Hurricane Harbor SplashTown is in Spring. ExxonMobil’s corporate campus, opened in 2014 along Interstate 45, stands next to the CDP rather than inside it.
