Springer, OK

Springer is a Carter County town on U.S. 77, ten miles north of Ardmore and just south of the Arbuckle Mountains. Its post office opened in 1890 and was named for pioneer rancher W.A. Springer. Farming and ranching shaped the early community, while the road through town connects it to Ardmore and the wider Carter County area. The 2020 census counted 685 residents, and Springer is part of the Ardmore micropolitan area.

Springer has had to rebuild before: a 1910 post-office fire spread along Main Street, and residents used dynamite to stop the flames after the post office, general store, blacksmith shop, and fraternal hall were destroyed. The post office, a few stores, churches, farms, and Springer schools continued into the twenty-first century. Interstate 35 runs along the western edge with access at Exits 40 and 42. Springer is a road-oriented town with a ranching past, a 1910 fire story, and an everyday map made up of school, church, store, and farm connections.
