Springfield, WV

Set in Hampshire County's South Branch Valley, Springfield is a quiet community about nine miles north of Romney. Home to fewer than 500 residents, the town sits along West Virginia Route 28, following a travel corridor that has carried locals through the valley since colonial times. George Washington surveyed the surrounding land in 1748, and Virginia officially chartered the settlement in 1790. Today, the rolling pastures, river crossings, and mountain views give the area an easygoing rural character.

Daily life centers on the crossroads, anchored by the local post office and the historic Springfield United Methodist Church. With little commercial development in town, residents handle everyday shopping, dining, and services by taking a quick drive into Romney or heading north toward Cumberland. Students attend Hampshire County public schools, and the surrounding valley provides plenty of space to spread out and enjoy a peaceful country setting.
