St. Anthony, IN

St. Anthony is a Dubois County census-designated place in Jackson Township, in southern Indiana’s rolling farm country. The village was first known as St. Joseph; its name changed to St. Anthony when residents sought a post office, and the community’s plat dates to 1860. The post office arrived in 1874, giving the place a formal tie to the surrounding farms and roads. Today it sits within the Jasper micropolitan area, but it still reads as a small unincorporated community rather than an urban extension.

The church is the local landmark that makes the history visible. St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church was built in 1885 and is part of Dubois County’s Trail of Faith, a route highlighting the county’s old churches.
