St. John’s most recognizable landmark is the Shrine of Christ's Passion, an expansive outdoor prayer trail set on beautifully landscaped grounds right off Wicker Avenue. The half-mile path winds through forty life-size bronze statues with ambient music and listening stations narrated by veteran broadcaster Bill Kurtis. It draws thousands of regional visitors and tour buses throughout the year. For locals, it provides a serene setting for a peaceful walk, though it is worth noting that traffic along this central stretch of Route 41 picks up around holiday weekends and special events.

Daily errands and weekend routines also center around the Wicker Avenue corridor. From May through October, residents head out on Sunday mornings for the local farmers market held on the community hospital grounds. Just down the road, the St. John branch library acts as a busy neighborhood hub, offering storytimes, craft workshops, and makerspace classes. Depending on where you buy a home, you might take U.S. 41 directly for quick grocery runs and dining, or rely on quieter local back roads to bypass the highway during peak commute hours.

Outdoor recreation is woven directly into the surrounding neighborhoods. Lake Hills Park is a local favorite with its walking loop, fishing pier, and summer amphitheater concerts, while Heron Lake Park features a summer splash pad and a popular winter sledding hill. Over at The Gates of St. John, you will find active soccer fields, pickleball courts, and a community skate park.
