About St. Stephen

St. Stephen is a Berkeley County town between Lake Moultrie and the Santee River, four miles east of Lake Moultrie and near the northern edge of Francis Marion National Forest. U.S. 52 and South Carolina 45 meet the town’s road network, placing it in the Charleston–North Charleston–Summerville metro while keeping the surrounding landscape rooted in lakes, woods, and lowcountry roads. The 2020 census counted 1,571 residents.

The town’s older map includes the Keller Site and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, both listed on the National Register. Current routines run through town offices, local businesses, the Berkeley County Library branch, and trips to Lake Moultrie or nearby Cypress Gardens. The forest, river, and lake give the town a broad outdoor frame, while the library and town streets keep everyday life close at hand. The town’s lake-facing roads also make the shoreline part of ordinary errands and weekends. St. Stephen’s location makes it a useful hinge between inland Berkeley County and the larger Charleston region.
