Stagecoach, TX

Stagecoach is a Montgomery County city on the east bank of Sulphur Creek, southwest of Conroe. The land had been a farm and sawmill operation owned by W. L. Swinley before a residential development called Stagecoach Farms began in 1958 along an older nineteenth-century stage route. Local property owners organized a civic club in the 1960s, chose a mayor in 1974, and incorporated as Stagecoach in 1980. Two artificial lakes and resident parks were part of the development’s plan. Stagecoach is a pine-and-oak community whose name remembers the road that came before the houses.
