Starks, LA

Starks is a quiet rural community in western Calcasieu Parish, sitting right along the Louisiana-Texas border. Home to around 700 residents, it offers a peaceful country setting surrounded by pine forests, bayous, and wetlands. The town sits about 30 miles northwest of Lake Charles and just across the Sabine River from Texas, giving residents a secluded place to live with convenient road access to larger neighboring hubs.

Much of the community revolves around Starks High School, a close-knit campus that serves local students from pre-K all the way through twelfth grade. Starks is also known for its annual Mayhaw Festival, a popular springtime tradition built around the tart native berry that brings friends and neighbors together for food, crafts, and family fun.
