About State Center

State Center is a Marshall County city that got its start when the railroad came through in 1864, with a name tied to its position near Iowa's geographic center. The rose story came later: State Center was named the Rose Capital of Iowa in 1958, and the town has held an annual Rose Festival since that year, apart from 2020. The 1880 train depot and a historic rose garden keep the two halves of the name together. State Center is a central Iowa place where a railroad town grew into a rose town without dropping the original map clue.
