Stiles, PA

Stiles is an unincorporated Lehigh Valley community and census-designated place in central Whitehall Township, in eastern Lehigh County. The 2010 census counted 1,113 residents. Coplay Creek forms the western edge, Coplay borough sits to the east, and Hokendauqua is south. Stiles uses Whitehall's 18052 ZIP Code and shares the township's road network with a string of older villages. Since it has no separate borough government, the place is easiest to know by its creek, its neighboring villages, and its position between the smaller local roads and the larger Lehigh Valley map.

Whitehall's history gives Stiles a strong regional backdrop. German Palatinate settlers cleared farms, the Lehigh Canal opened new trade in 1829, and iron, cement, and rail industries pulled the township into the industrial economy. Whitehall still includes about 2,000 acres of cultivated land, while Allentown's growth and postwar retail turned the township into a major suburban employment and shopping area. Stiles sits inside that transition, with creek-side edges and village streets on one side and the Lehigh Valley's larger traffic on the other.
