Stillwater, OK

Oklahoma State University's scale is part of Stillwater's everyday geography: the university reported 27,655 students on its Stillwater campus on the first day of fall 2025, beside a city population estimated at 50,138 in July 2024. Census figures for 2020–2024 recorded an owner-occupied housing rate of 37.1 percent, 65.7 percent of residents living in the same home as a year earlier, and a 15.4-minute mean commute. The institutional relationship reaches back to Christmas Eve 1890, when the territorial legislature selected Stillwater for Oklahoma's land-grant college, a year after the town formed during the 1889 land run. Old Central, dedicated in 1894, survives from the college's earliest period. Stillwater is also the Payne County seat and home of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Campus is not the only cultural cluster. Downtown's Cultural District brings together the OSU Museum of Art, Modella Art Gallery, Prairie Arts Center, Community Center, public library, and local history museum.

North of campus, Boomer Lake Park has a 3.2-mile paved loop, splash pad, playground, 18-basket disc-golf course, and places to fish or launch a boat, though swimming is prohibited. City and university transit operate through Stillwater and the campus; university transit states that its fixed-route service is open to the public, with students and employees riding free with identification and other riders paying 75 cents. A planned rail-to-trail corridor was moving through design in 2026. The first two phases would connect Lakeview Road to McElroy Road and then McElroy to Sixth Avenue, using a former rail alignment and roughly $1 million in state transportation funding. For longer trips, Stillwater Regional Airport offers nonstop service to Dallas–Fort Worth and free parking.
