About Stockdale

Stockdale is a Wilson County city that began under names like High Prairie, Free Timber, and Bunker’s Store before taking the name of Texas lieutenant governor Fletcher S. Stockdale. The town was laid out in 1872, got a post office in 1871, and finally gained rail service in 1898. Cotton, peanuts, watermelons, cattle, and the old train station all belong to the local story; the Stockdale Brahmas carry the town name into the present. Stockdale is a South Texas place with a railroad past, a farm-market history, and a mascot that sounds like it came straight from the ranch.
