Stockertown, PA

Stockertown is a Northampton County borough in the Lehigh Valley, named for the Stocker family, Swiss settlers who arrived in the late 18th century. The post village was called Stockersville by 1845, and limestone plus nearby cement manufacturing later shaped the ground beneath the borough. The Stockertown Rail Trail now runs about a mile from Sherman Metzgar Park to a Main Street parking area, with planned connections to the Plainfield Township Trail and Palmer Bikeway. Limestone belts still lie beneath part of the borough, alongside the quarrying history that helped define the area. Stockertown is a compact rail-and-limestone borough with an old family name and a trail at the edge of that industrial story.
