Stockton, AL

Stockton is an unincorporated Baldwin County community in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, where roads, waterways, pine country, and old settlement sites meet. Its post office opened in 1837, and local history associates the name with Francis Stockton, who helped select Baldwin County’s first courthouse site. Nearby Bottle Creek Indian Mounds preserve a major Mississippian-period center on Mound Island, giving Stockton a deep archaeological setting beyond its present population.

Baldwin County Public Schools serves the area, while U.S. 31 and other local roads connect Stockton with Bay Minette, the eastern shore, and the wider Daphne–Fairhope–Foley region. A small seaplane base adds an unusual piece to the transportation map, and the delta brings boating, fishing, hunting, and wildlife into everyday recreation. The community itself is spread out, with homes, churches, farms, woods, and working roads instead of a dense town center. Stockton’s local character comes from that overlap of river country, aviation, county history, and the long human record held in the mounds.
