About Stonecrest
Stonecrest became a city after southeastern DeKalb County voters approved incorporation in November 2016; elections for a mayor and five council districts followed in March 2017. Its boundaries occupy the county’s far southeastern corner, with a smaller section north of Interstate 20, and touch Lithonia, Rockdale County, and Henry County. Its 2020 population was 59,194, making Stonecrest the largest city located entirely within DeKalb County. The city took its name from the Mall at Stonecrest, which opened in 2001. Beyond the mall, local sites include the Davidson-Arabia Nature Preserve, Flat Rock Archives, and Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
