Streamwood preserves its pre-suburban story in a place residents still use. Hoosier Grove Park occupies 17.1 acres of the former Landmeier dairy farm, where an 1888 barn now hosts weddings and community rentals. A one-room schoolhouse built in 1904, when the area was known as Hoosier Grove, became a seasonal museum; visitors can handle artifacts and learn how the school also served as an election site, meeting room, and gathering place despite having no running water when it closed in 1954. The surrounding park adds soccer and ball fields, sand volleyball, a playground, and picnic space. On the last full weekend of July, Summer Celebration transforms the campus with a carnival, food, music, and games. The village, park district, and Poplar Creek Library jointly produce the three-day festival, which draws more than 10,000 attendees. Everyday recreation is distributed more broadly.

The park district lists 48 parks, and Park Place Family Recreation Center combines two basketball courts, a running track, fitness and dance rooms, a sauna and whirlpool, preschool space, a six-lane lap pool, and an activity pool. Park Place turned 30 in 2026 with reduced-price drop-in days, free open swims, and a poolside movie. Beyond the developed neighborhoods, the Arthur L. Janura Forest Preserve borders Streamwood on the north and west; its Poplar Creek system offers 21 miles of paved and unpaved routes for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The village incorporated in 1957 and grew into the Tri Village area with Bartlett and Hanover Park. Its 2020 census population was 39,577, but the retained Hoosier Grove buildings and nearby preserve keep pieces of the earlier farm landscape visible within the Chicago suburbs.
