Protected forest is part of Summit Park's residential fabric rather than a distant destination. The 316-acre Summit Park Open Space is held under a conservation easement and preserved as a Forest Legacy property, protecting mature timber, wildlife habitat, water quality, and public recreation. Its trail system extends across 781 acres with nearly eight miles of routes for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking, ranging from beginner to advanced. Several paths are hiking-only, dogs must remain under control, and electric bicycles are generally barred from the singletrack. Snow also changes daily access: most singletrack is not winter-maintained, parking at the Park View and Short Stack trailheads becomes extremely limited, and the recreation district specifically directs users to avalanche forecasts because of the area's steep slopes and heavy snow.
