Sunset Lake, NJ

Sunset Lake is a Cumberland County census-designated place in the southwest corner of Upper Deerfield Township, bordered to the south by Bridgeton. The 2020 census counted 494 residents. The community sits beside Sunset Lake, an impoundment on the Cohansey River, with Silver Lake to the north and Laurel Heights to the east. Upper Deerfield Township and Cumberland Regional school districts handle the school map, so the place works as a small residential pocket in the wider Bridgeton area. The lake names do most of the local orientation.

Sunset Lake covers about 89 acres and supports swimming, boating, and fishing, while the Cohansey continues south through Bridgeton toward Delaware Bay. Tumbling Dam Park and the lake edge give the area its recognizable outdoor landmark, but the daily map is still roads, homes, township services, and school routes rather than a separate downtown. Sunset Lake's local scoop is an Upper Deerfield community named for the water beside it, with Bridgeton's county-seat activity just over the southern line.
