Sussex sits in Waukesha County about 20 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee and ten miles north of Waukesha. The village formed in the 1920s when two neighboring railroad and quarry settlements merged into one community. You can still see hints of that history along Main Street, though most of Sussex today consists of peaceful residential subdivisions built over the last few decades. Families often move here specifically for the highly rated Hamilton School District, which serves the village and neighboring towns.
