Sykesville is a town in Carroll and Howard counties, Maryland, situated along the Patapsco River. Developed around a historic railroad stop where William Sykes constructed a stone hotel and grist mill in 1830, the community of approximately 4,491 was historically associated with Francis Scott Key Jr. Public education is served by Carroll County Public Schools.
