Taconic Shores, NY

Taconic Shores wraps around Robinson Pond near the center of the town of Copake in Columbia County. The CDP was designated after the 2010 census, and the 2020 count was 547. Its geography is unusually specific: houses and neighborhood roads encircle a pond on the Roeliff Jansen Kill, which flows west toward the Hudson River, while Copake Hamlet and Town Hall sit just south. The community is part of a wider Copake landscape that also includes Copake Lake and the surrounding Columbia County hills.

Taconic Shores began as a resort development in 1957 and has grown into a year-round association with its own clubhouse, board, sections, and regular member meetings. Robinson Pond is the center of the calendar as well as the map. Residents use it for fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, and the association works with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on vegetation and invasive-species management. The result is a residential place whose everyday institutions are organized around a managed lake, neighborhood association, and the town government just down the road.
