Taholah, WA

Taholah sits right on the rugged Washington coast where the Quinault River empties into the Pacific Ocean. As the headquarters and main hub of the Quinault Indian Nation, the village is a close-knit coastal community shaped by deep tribal traditions, fishing, and forestry. In the lower village along the water, you will find the local K-12 school, tribal government offices, a post office, the community store, and a seafood cannery.

Living this close to the ocean brings real challenges from winter storm surges, coastal flooding, and tsunami risks. In response, the Quinault Nation is moving forward with a plan to relocate to higher ground, developing a new village site about a half-mile inland. This project is gradually shifting homes, community services, and the school up the hill, keeping families safe while preserving the neighborhood ties that hold the town together.
