About Tampico

Tampico is a village located in Tampico Township, Whiteside County, Illinois, United States next to Rock Falls and Sterling, Illinois. The 2020 census counted 689 residents. Tampico is known as the birthplace of Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States. The area containing the future Tampico township was a slough. Christ Lutheran School, located in nearby Sterling, serves students of various religious backgrounds from Walnut to Milledgeville and from Morrison to Dixon. The short version is that Tampico carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Tampico: its past remains attached to the places people use now. The first European settlers arrived in 1852. Tampico is located approximately 40 mi east-northeast of Moline and approximately 110 mi west of Chicago.
