Tangier, VA

Tangier sits out in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, accessible only by passenger ferry, boat, or small airplane. Home to around 400 year-round residents, this tiny Virginia island offers a quiet, tight-knit lifestyle shaped entirely by the water. There are no bridges to the mainland and very few full-sized cars; instead, locals get around the narrow lanes on golf carts, bicycles, or by walking.
