About Tappan
Tappan is a Rockland County hamlet near the New Jersey line, with history reaching back to the Lenape Tappan people and Dutch colonial settlement. Its older buildings give it a strong local story, especially the Bogert-Haring House, an eighteenth-century sandstone house tied to nine generations of the Bogert and Haring families. Tappan also has Revolutionary War associations and a small historic center. Today it is residential and suburban, but its old houses and borderland location keep a clear Hudson Valley character.
