Taycheedah, WI

Taycheedah is an unincorporated census-designated place on the east shore of Lake Winnebago, northeast of Fond du Lac. The first settlers arrived in 1838, and the town took its name from a word Governor Doty associated with “camping place.” Its harbor helped the early settlement grow; Taycheedah had Fond du Lac County’s first store and first school, built in 1842. The original school later hosted church services and community affairs, and since 1926 the building has been known as the Taycheedah Community Club. The lake and nearby city still frame the place, while the old village center preserves a clear link between harbor traffic, schooling, and local gatherings. Taycheedah is a lakeside town section with a nineteenth-century civic history still attached to its first community building.
