About Taylorsville

Taylorsville is a Smith County town west of the Leaf River, a place that arrived with the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad in 1900. The railroad employee who selected the site was followed by a post office, and the town became an early rail-era settlement in southeast Mississippi. The Leaf River passes under Mississippi Highway 28 just outside town and feeds the larger Pascagoula River system. Every November, the Grillin' N Chillin' Barbecue Festival turns the town's name into a weekend of smoke, grills, and competition. Taylorsville is a Mississippi town with rails in its origin and the Leaf River at its edge.
