Taylortown, NC

Taylortown sits in southern Moore County against Pinehurst, with North Carolina Highway 211 along its southern edge and Nicks Creek drainage shaping the landscape. The town grew from land purchased in 1905 by Demus Taylor, a formerly enslaved man who established a community for Black workers connected to Pinehurst's early resort. Originally called Old Settlement, it later took Taylor's name. That history is still part of how locals read the town: a place built by people whose labor helped make Pinehurst.

North Carolina Highway 211 sends drivers toward West End and the U.S. 15 and 501 corridor, while Pinehurst provides the nearest resort, retail, and golf-country backdrop. Taylortown incorporated in 1987, giving the community its own municipal structure even as its roads and economy remain intertwined with the surrounding village. The town is also associated with Robert Hard Rock Robinson, the celebrated Pinehurst caddie.
